Pirelli Trophy West USA Ready to Launch 2018 Season in Las Vegas

The 2018  Pirelli Trophy West USA season will open this weekend on the road course at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a double-header race event to kick off the 2018 championship.

The event is the first of eight race weekends that will see the all-Porsche category visit some of North America’s best tracks, including Road America, Sonoma Raceway, Utah Motorsports Campus, and the Circuit of the Americas.

2018 marks the 12th season of operation for the  Pirelli Trophy West USA, which was founded by and is managed by Competent Motorsport, LLC.

With well-run events that feature a focus on driver development, serious competition, and a strong sense of camaraderie among the competitors, Pirelli Trophy West USA has grown year over year. This season marks a significant new direction as the championship will host its own stand-alone events starting with the Las Vegas weekend.

The championship has helped to foster continued driver development thanks to the guidance of two key figures, as Randy Buck joined the series in 2017 as Race Director.

Craig Stanton has served as Series Driver Coach since the series’ inception and  is available to every racer in the field for feedback and advice on getting the most out of their  machines.

Building on that structure, Pirelli Trophy West USA has hired Janis Kozloski as Director of Series Development. She will focus on a variety of aspects including helping upgrade the customer experience and expanding Series Development.

Visitors to the Pirelli Trophy West USA experience an enthusiast’s dream, with a paddock packed with a wide range of modern machines across multiple classes of competition. 2018 will see battles among runners in the Diamond (2017-2018 991.2 GT3 Cup), Platinum (2015-16  991.1 GT3 Cup), Gold (2010-2013 997.2 GT3 Cup), Silver (Cayman Clubsport GT4 MR) and Bronze (2016 Cayman Clubsport GT4 Trophy) classes.

“We are really excited about launching the 12th season of operation for  Pirelli Trophy West USA,” said Competent Motorsport president and founder Greg Franz. “Our paddock has responded with a lot of enthusiasm about our approach this year, and we’ve got another great field of racers with us. Steven Costello (Series Director) has continued to evolve the race series operationally to a new level.  Moving to the stand-alone approach for our events will create even better events for our racers and has a lot of potential for the future. Returning to Las Vegas for the first time in several years is a great way for us to get this year going!”

The Las Vegas race weekend will open with practice on March 23rd. Saturday and Sunday will each feature two complete race days comprised of practice, qualifying, and a forty-minute, flag-to-flag race.
