The season may be winding down, but the the momentum is still kicking as Wright Motorsports bring their stable of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars to Rounds 11 and 12 at VIRginia International Raceway. The weekend is poised to be nothing short of exciting for the Batavia Ohio-based team as Max Root, Charlie Luck, Anthony Imperato and Fred Poordad prepare to take one of America’s most classic road courses.
Hailing from Richmond Virginia, Charlie Luck is certainly no stranger to the Virginia road course. The Platinum Masters driver, who’s yet to leave an event this season without a podium, will enter his home event with a healthy 17-point advantage in the championship lead.
Having shown great speed and race craft in the opening half of the championship, Hurley Haywood scholar, Max Root is prepared to take on another new track. After a weekend of mixed luck at Road America, the California native sits fourth in the Platinum championship standings and hopes to impress at the classic Virginia track.
Another one to watch is Anthony Imperato, who enters this weekend’s round running fifth in the Platinum championship. With three podiums on the season- including a second place at Road America- Imperato looks to continue his fight to a victory at VIRginia International Raceway.
After bouncing back with a Platinum Masters podium at Road America, Fred Poordad is eager to keep the momentum going. Having shown tremendous pace within the field the Texas native has proved that he knows exactly what it takes to do so ahead of this weekend’s round..
The first of this weekend’s two 45-minute races takes the green flag at 11:20AM EST on Saturday, Aug. 18, with the second starting Sunday, Aug. 19 at 9:15AM EST. Both races will be streamed live on IMSA.tv with IMSA Radio commentary.
Max Root | Driver, No. 7 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – “Coming off a tough weekend at Road America, I had to gather myself and focus on the things we needed to improve on. We showed great pace throughout the season and hope to carry that energy into this weekend’s races at VIR.”
Anthony Imperato | Driver, No. 91 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – “I’m excited to get back on track at VIR. We’ve tested here a few times and I’ve had some good runs in the past so I feel confident that we will have some good results.”
Fred Poordad | Driver, No. 20 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup –“I am excited to be going to VIR. It’s a challenging track with a lot of unique features. Coming off a pretty good weekend at Road America, I’m looking forward to building on that and finishing the season strong.”
Charlie Luck | Driver, No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup– “I’m looking forward to VIR after coming off a great weekend at Road America. VIR is a totally different track- It’s much more technical and doesn’t have high speed turns that Road America has. The whole VIR team does a great job organizing this event. It’s the closest track to my home in Richmond so I’m looking forward to having some of my some friends family and employees from my company attend. I’m excited to get things started.”
