The Wright Motorsports team has the opportunity to extend its podium streak to three in a row this weekend in California. Christina Nielsen, Pat Long and the Porsche racing team will aim for another top-three finish with the No. 58 Porsche Consulting/Porsche Digital Porsche 911 GT3 R at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from September 7 to 9.
Nielsen, the two-time defending GTD champion in IMSA’s WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, is no stranger to this type of success. She won at this track in 2017, and took second place at Laguna Seca in 2016.
“Laguna Seca was a big game changer last year,” she said. “For myself and my old team, we almost closed the championship there because of a victory. So it is a place I have good memories from and looking at the previous years, it’s normally a track where the Porsche has been strong, so I am optimistic!”
As Porsche’s “Selected Driver” representing North America, her experience leading up to the penultimate round of this season’s race calendar will serve her well on the 11-turn, 2.24-mile track just outside Monterey, California. She and co-driver Long will take turns racing against over 30 other sportscars during the two-hour, 40-minute Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix featuring America’s Tire 250 event.
“The last three races have given us a bit more confidence, and I feel like we now have a stronger base to always move forward from every time we get to a track,” Nielsen continued. “At the same time, it’s sort of a home race, so I’ll be looking forward to cruising up the coast from Los Angeles in my 2018 Porsche 911 from Porsche Fresno!”
The Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix featuring America’s Tire 250 is from September 7 to 9 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey, California. Qualifying begins on September 8 at 3:45 p.m. Eastern time. The race begins at 5:05 p.m. Eastern time on September 9.
