Still celebrating an epic victory at the 24H Nürburgring last Sunday, Matteo Cairoli is now set for the 8 Hours of Portimão sharing driving duties in the Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR with team-mates Riccardo Pera and Egidio Perfetti.
The Algarve race marks this weekend – 11/13 June – the second round of the FIA WEC Championship season where the Italian racing driver aims to bounce back following a false start at Spa early last month. In Belgium an incident occured to Perfetti in the qualifying session prevented the trio to enter the race for the heavy car damages.
“Unfortunately I’m not 100 per cent healthy due to a pharyngitis”, Cairoli said. “Nevertheless I am very happy to return to track as the recent victory at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring has galvanized me. We must to recover all that we lost at the Spa opener in terms of points. I’m very confident we can do that.”
Action at the Algarve circuit gets underway tomorrow with the first 90-minute free practice session. Two more FP sessions are scheduled on Saturday, while qualifying will start at 18. The 8 Hours of Portimão race will commence on Sunday at 11.
