After making last week his debut in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe by Aws Endurance Cup – taking the pole position in the Gold class before a gearbox issue stopped his Mercedes-AMG GT3 run by Winward Racing – HTP Motorsport – Lorenzo Ferrari adds a third high level program to his American commitment inthe IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, including the Six Hours of the Glen and the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
The reigning Italian GT Sprint and Endurance champion will enter all the European Le Mans Series rounds with the Proton Competition’s Porsche, sharing driving duties with former F1 and factory driver Gianmaria Bruni and skilled German racer Christian Ried.
Only at his third season in the GT, Lorenzo – who turned 19 last October – will hit the track during the official testing next Tuesday, 12 April, ahead of the season opener scheduled at the Paul Ricard circuit in the Easter week.
“I’m excited to start this new challenge, driving a car without abs I never drove before and I will test in the same week of the Le Castellet round“, Lorenzo said. “Racing together with prototypes, is another novelty for me. My goal as usual is to give the best, making as few mistakes as possibile and showing my speed. Is a real honor to share the car with Ried and Bruni, who raced in F1 and has a huge experience indeed”.
The French round will precede the Italian 4-hour races at Imola (14/15 May) and Monza (2/3 July). The series then will head to the Spanish track of Barcelona on 27/28 August, ahead of Belgian round at Spa-Francorchamps (24/25 September) and the last race in Portimão (15/16 October), in the Algarve region.
