A little less than 3.4-mile thrilling and old style track. This is Watkins Glen, that hosted since 1961 twenty consecutive editions of the USA Grand Prix, and the World Sportscar Championship from the late ’60s to early ‘80s.
Nowadays the Six Hours of the Glen is part of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, as third of four Michelin Endurance Cup rounds, following the last March 12 Hours of Sebring in which the Cetilar Racing powered by AF Corse #47 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 claimed its first victory in the GTD class.
In Florida, Roberto Lacorte, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Antonio Fuoco performed a great race and now they are aware to have the right pace to show well again, despite all three drivers of the sole all Italian squad have never raced at Watkins Glen before, having completed only a day-test there last May.
In the GT Daytona drivers’ standings Lacorte, Sernagiotto and Fuoco take the fifth position, only five points behind the leaders Brendon Iribe/Ollie Millroy/Jordan Pepper (McLaren) and Luis Perez Companc/Simon Mann/Toni Vilander (Ferrari). The Italian trio will aim to have high hopes for another strong weekend with the Ferrari brand, that celebrated another 6 Hour victory at the Paul Ricard in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS with a Iron Lynx car shared by Fuoco, Davide Rigon and Daniel Serra.
“Watkins Glen is another circuit to discover, despite we did there recently a test-day. It is a high-speed, risky and technical track, in a perfect American style. Once more, racing in the Usa is a big emotion for us, both for the ambience and the public“, Roberto Lacorte said. “We are all set! Our car is good and very well-balanced. Alongside Antonio and Giorgio, I aim to have a regular race, as usual well supported by AF Corse.”
“I head to Glen after having won another six-hour race, at the 1000 Km Paul Ricard, and the 12 Hours of Sebring in the IMSA series. Now I want to aim high again. We have a great pace and already showed it“, Antonio Fuoco added.
The Six Hours of the Glen will be held this coming weekend, 24th/26th June. The free practice sessions will kick-off action on Friday and Saturday morning. Qualifying will commence on Saturday at 13:20 local time (19:20 CEST). The race will start on Sunday after the warm-up, with lights on at 10:40 local time (16:40 CEST).
