SSR Performance excited for premiere at the Norisring

SSR Performance is highly motivated for a special weekend – the Munich team will compete in front of their home crowd at the street circuit of the Norisring with Laurens Vanthoor (BEL) and Dennis Olsen (NOR) in the DTM.

Before the summer break begins, the fourth DTM event of the season will take place at the Norisring this weekend. With a novelty in DTM history: Due to the large starting field, the qualifying sessions are divided into two groups. This is to ensure that all 27 vehicles have a fair chance and free laps are possible.

The 2.3 kilometer street circuit in Nuremberg offers the setting for an event that has never happened before in the traditional German series. 15 cars will start qualifying in group A and 14 in group B. 20 minutes of driving time are available when the two groups are divided according to the current championship standings. The starting grid is not based on lap times, but on the ranking in the qualifying group. Accordingly, the driver with the absolute best time has the pole position. He is followed by the fastest of the other group, and so on.

The only street circuit of the season, which is also known as the “Franconian Monaco”, is SSR Performance’s home race. See and be seen – many sponsors, partners and friends will keep their fingers crossed for the two Porsche 911 GT3 R on site. So far, the season has been rather disappointing for the Munich based team. This should now change in front of a home audience.

The team is supported by the EDAG Group, Allianz Generalvertretung Wolfram Blank e.K., Becker Carbon, DC AVIATION, Hochwald Sprudel, itWheels by tyremotive, KW Suspensions, Laco watches, MOTUL, NIMEX, Riemensperger Mechanische Werkstätte GmbH and Valuniq Business Consulting.

Stefan Schlund, Team Owner: “For me, as a native of Franconia, the two races at the Norisring are my personal highlight of the season. As an 18-year-old, I spent countless nights and weekends around the Steintribüne area. Traveling to the historic Noris 20 years later with my own DTM team is a very emotional moment for me. I think the whole team feels the same and that’s why we are highly motivated to put on a great show for families, friends, customers and partners.”

Mario Schuhbauer, Team Principal SSR Performance: „After the weekend in Imola we analyzed all the data again and are well prepared for the races at the Norisring. The split qualifying sessions in particular will definitely be exciting.”

Laurens Vanthoor, driver #92: „The last few weekends have not been very successful. The Norisring is a very special circuit and the team’s home race. We will do our best to improve the results. I’m definitely looking forward to the races.”

Dennis Olsen, driver #94: „It will be an interesting weekend for us. The street circuit can be a game changer – there are tight corners and that should suit our car. Of course, I hope that we can deliver a strong performance. We continue to believe in our team and will push. I know the track well and have already won the Carrera Cup at the Norisring. I look forward to the challenge!”
