After a successful debut at Road Atlanta, drivers and teams in the PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series will head to NOLA Motorsports Park for round two of the 2016 season April 15-17.
Drivers will race in the new, track-only Cayman GT4 Clubsport race car at NOLA Motorsports Park in a separate group within the traditional PCA Club Racing event hosted by the Mardi Gras and Whiskey Bay Regions of PCA. The 385-horsepower, mid-engine racer, which features a sealed engine and transmission and a spec Pirelli tire, is developed by Porsche Motorsport North America and based on the successful street-legal Cayman GT4 sports car.
Around 20 drivers are expected to compete on the 2.75-mile, 16-turn circuit, located just 15 minutes from the historic French Quarter in New Orleans.
The event will feature three races in an exciting, varied format relative to PCA Club Racing standards. The first and second races will be 30-minute sprint races. The third race is an endurance race lasting 80 minutes.
There will be three practice sessions Friday, April 15, followed by qualifying at 9:40 a.m. (CT) Saturday, April 16 and two sprint races at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. The 80-minute enduro will start at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, April 17.
Championship and Pro competitors will receive points based on finish in their respective divisions, with podium recognition for each of the top three drivers. A Masters division also will be conducted for drivers 57 years and older. Trophies will be awarded to the top three in racers in each division when there are at least three competing entries.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport is making its second appearance this weekend in the PCA Club Racing paddock after its debut April 1-3 at Road Atlanta. The car, new to the Porsche factory racing stables, showed its performance last month by finishing first in IMSA-sanctioned competition at Sebring International Raceway.
Nineteen cars competed in the inagural weekend for the PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series at Road Atlanta, with 10 different drivers finding the podium. Frank Selldorff, of the Northeast PCA Region, and his co-driver, Andrew Davis, won in the 80-minute enduro in the No. 65 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
Jason Hart took two wins in the No. 47 NOLAsport Porsche, while Rene Robichaud, from the Ohio Valley PCA Region, earned six podium finishes, three in each of the overall and Masters divisions in the No. 89 Kelly-Moss Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Roger Halvorsen produced three podium finishes for the weekend in the Masters division.
Other podium finishers included David Baum, William Slowikowski, Keith Jensen, Ed Lane, and David and Russell Walker.
The PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series highlights the spirit of PCA Club Racing and the skills of its drivers at iconic road racing venues east of the Rocky Mountains. The series provides a bridge for Porsche racers to climb to the professional ranks through this semi-professional racing series.
