As the 2017 race season ushers in a brand new level of competition in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series, TeamTGM returns with Ted Giovanis once again joined by Guy Cosmo in the JKTG Foundation/Camp Boggy Creek Porsche Cayman ClubSport GT4.
Cosmo campaigned the final four races of the IMSA season as Giovanis’ co-driver last year, with a podium finish of third at Road America in his debut with the team.
“I’m thrilled to be back with TeamTGM for the entire 2017 season,” said Cosmo of his return to the team. “We’ve established a great bond, made great progress, grabbed a podium finish and had a lot of fun in the process. Ted Giovanis is a great teammate and team owner who’s put a lot into the continued development of this team. We have a great partner in Porsche with the Cayman GT4, a fantastic crew led by the talented Brandon Perrott and the addition of the legend himself, Joe Varde.”
New for 2017 is a pair of four-hour endurance races held at Daytona International Speedway in January and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in September at which veteran Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge driver Hugh Plumb will complete the TeamTGM driver line up.
Plumb scored the pole at Daytona last year in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition and won the event in 2015 while driving for Rum Bum Racing in a Porsche. He took runner-up in the 2015 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship co-driving with his brother Matt.
“I’m excited to be back racing in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge with TeamTGM,” said Plumb, who most recently competed in two races in the Continental Tire series last year in addition to two races in Pirelli World Challenge GTS. “I know this team has worked incredibly hard and I look forward to adding to their success in 2017 with Ted (Giovanis) and Guy (Cosmo).”
With a driver line up that features a deep pool of experience and talent, the familiar hardworking TGM crew to back it up, and a new Director of Competition in strategist Joe Varde, TeamTGM is poised for a great year as it looks to vie for the 2017 championship title.
“I could not be happier about our team plans for 2017,” said TeamTGM owner and driver Giovanis. “We’ve really been working hard over the off season to prepare for the year and we’ve assembled a great group here. The endurance events are something new for our team and we’re really excited about them. Adding Hugh (Plumb) along with Guy (Cosmo) is just a tremendous addition. We can’t wait to get going at the Roar!”
The 2017 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge calendar features 10 events across the country. All races will run two hours in length, except for the two four-hour endurance races.
Giovanis, Cosmo and Plumb will all participate in the annual Roar Before the 24 test at Daytona International Speedway this week in preparation for the 2017 race season which kicks off at Daytona January 27.
