Tom Wrigley will get his maiden Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign underway next month (1/2 April) at Brands Hatch with confidence high after enjoying a “hugely positive” pre-season testing programme with the In2 Racing squad.
The trip down to Brands Hatch for the opening two rounds of a fifteen race season will provide happy memories for Wrigley, with the Kent circuit having served as the scene for his triumphant Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup title win five months ago.
The 24 year old firmly has his sights on the future now though as he prepares to lock horns with one of the most talented grids in Carrera Cup GB history this year – though Wrigley is certainly not daunted by the level of opposition facing him in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
As well as setting his sights on challenging for the overall championship top three and regular podium finishes, the Chirk-based racer will also be fighting for the championship’s Rookie Class honours and a share of the £60,000 prize fund up for grabs.
To give himself the best chance of fighting for glory, Wrigley has completed an extensive testing programme with In2 Racing over recent months, which culminated in a pair of hugely promising days of running at Silverstone and then Donington Park this week.
The trip to Silverstone on Monday (13 March) gave Wrigley his first opportunity to pit himself against the rest of the 2017 entry during the championship’s annual media day, and he immediately made his mark by lighting up the top of the timesheets at one stage during the morning session.
With another encouraging day of running at Donington the following day, Wrigley is now ready to hit the ground running during the season opener at Brands Hatch on April 1/2 in his In2 Racing Porsche – an eye-catching livery for which will be unveiled soon.
Tom Wrigley: “We’ve had another great two days of testing this week to continue a hugely positive and productive on-track programme so far. We again learnt lots about the car and I feel like I’ve really gelled with it now, whilst it was also great to get some new tyre runs in ahead of the season.
“Our pace is looking really strong and it felt great to be right towards the top of the timesheets in some of the sessions at both circuits. That’s a huge confidence boost for me, and it means we can head into the season with our eyes set on the front of the grid.
“I’m really looking forward to the season ahead. The championship is set to be hugely competitive, but I have an extremely strong team behind me in In2 Racing, and together we are ready to really push from the off at Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks.”
