Flying Lizard Motorsports is set to begin another season in the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA this month, beginning in two weeks at Thunderhill Raceway Park. The California team began racing in 2003 with Porsche, and now 14 years later will run four Porsches for the entirety of Eddie Arrowsmith, Martin Brauns, Paul Camusi, and Thomas Meyerhoffer.
“It is going to be a busy season for Flying Lizard Motorsports,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “Our customer racing program continues to evolve and expand, and we are proud to have Eddie, Martin, Paul, and Thomas with us for the full Pirelli GT3 Cup season.”
New to Flying Lizard Motorsports, Eddie Arrowsmith will compete in her Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. Since 2002, Arrowsmith has participated in vintage racing with HSR-West, Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA), Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), and the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA). Arrowsmith resides in Fallbrook, California and founded a vintage racing support company called ArrowLane. She is also the president of a restoration business of historically and architecturally significant buildings, and enjoys off-roading in UTVs. The white Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car she will race this year will have black, gold, and light green stripes going down the length of the car, with the same colors wrapping the rear.
Martin Brauns, in the #59 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, is also new to the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA series but a veteran of PRC/NASA racing in air-cooled Spec 911 cars where he has been a regular podium finisher. A life-long competitor, Brauns came to motorsports after 30 years in competitive yacht racing, where his victories included multiple class championships in the St. Francis Yacht Club – Rolex Big Boat Series. Age 57, he is a retired Silicon Valley CEO who now sits on select private company boards. Among the companies he is involved with is Agari, a leading cyber-security firm based in San Mateo, California. The Agari brand is prominently featured in his car’s livery, along with the iconic Flying Lizard shield.
Paul Camusi began his career as a gentleman racer in the Porsche Club of America in 1998 after purchasing his first Porsche 911. With the desire to become a better driver, Camusi participated in racing schools, which ultimately led to club racing, including some time in the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA. When not on track, he grows almonds and walnuts in North Sacramento Valley and resides in Napa Valley. Camusi’s No. 71 Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4 MR will run a variation of the Flying Lizard livery that remains well known to race fans.
No stranger to Flying Lizard Motorsports, Thomas Meyerhoffer returned to the team after a successful debut season in 2016. His motorsports addiction began just one year before at the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Alabama in 2015. With Lizard veteran Johannes van Overbeek as his driver coach, Meyerhoffer completed his career debut weekend with two top five finishes at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and went on to earn several podium finishes in his rookie season. With a current focus on intuitive and engaging design solutions, he is an award-winning designer, collaborating with world leading brands and startups in wellbeing, sport, and technology. Meyerhoffer will also race a Cayman Clubsport GT4 in 2017, sporting pieces of the Flying Lizard livery in red, white, and grey.
The team recently completed a successful test at Thunderhill Raceway Park, running in clear conditions to gain valuable data for the season ahead. The 2017 season begins April 14-16 at Thunderhill Raceway Park, and will then travel to Sonoma Raceway, Utah Motorsport Campus, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Circuit of the Americas, and Road America.
“The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA has evolved into a series with strong competition, and great tracks,” said Law. “For the past few years, Flying Lizard Motorsports has evolved as a business to keep up with the demands of this sport, and our customer racing program continues to be incredibly successful. Series like this give us a great proving ground to provide to our customers. We are looking forward to another competitive year with four strong drivers. To do it with four Porsches is just icing on the cake.”
