Redline Racing have continued their 100% winning start to the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season after Dan Cammish took a dominant double victory at Oulton Park last weekend (20/21 May) to return to the top of the championship standings.

The nine-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB champions have firmly established themselves as the team to beat so far this season, with Cammish and team-mate Charlie Eastwood having shared the victories across the opening two meetings of the season ahead of the visit to Oulton Park.

Just like he was twelve months ago, it was Cammish who proved to be the pace-setter across the weekend in Cheshire, with the 2015 and 2016 champion topping Friday practice before setting the bar in treacherous wet conditions in qualifying.

Cammish would go on to convert his double pole position into a pair of supreme lights-to-flag victories in Saturday’s opener and Sunday’s live-televised second encounter, with wins 26 and 27 of his Carrera Cup GB career moving him into a clear third on the all-time winners list.

Those victories have given Cammish an eleven point lead at the top of the standings over Eastwood, who’s grip on the top spot slipped away in the opening race when unfortunate early contact spun him down the field before he fought back to finish seventh.

The current Porsche Carrera Cup GB scholar, who had qualified on row two for both encounters, would bounce back in style in race two though with a brilliant drive to third position for his fifth podium finish of the season so far.

The opening race of the weekend had started in dramatic fashion meanwhile, with a massive multi-car incident at the first corner ultimately claiming nine victims – with Redline fortunate that only one of their six Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars were forced to retire.

That car belonged to Jamie Orton, who was luckily able to emerge with only minimal damage and therefore returned to the grid for race two the next day, with an impressive display seeing him rise from thirteenth on the grid to ninth position at the finish.

Tom Oliphant was unfortunate not to record a first podium finish of the season in race one, with damage sustained in the aforementioned first corner incident ultimately dropping him to fourth late on, which he followed up with fifth in race two for another great points haul.

Daniel McKay took a brilliant fifth in the opener meanwhile, his best overall finish in the championship so far, which coupled with seventh in race two has helped move him up to seventh in the points, ensuring five Redline drivers currently occupy the top seven.

One spot ahead of him is his brother Euan McKay, who had missed Friday practice to sit his final university exam but was still straight on the front-running pace across the weekend, with a strong display seeing him record eighth and sixth place finishes.

As well as holding the top two positions in the drivers’ championship, Redline have maintained a healthy 69 point lead in the teams championship as they prepare to head overseas in three weeks’ time (14-17 June) to compete on the support bill of the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours race.

Simon Leonard – Team Boss, Redline Racing: “It’s been another brilliant weekend for the team, with all six drivers producing really strong results. Dan [Cammish] was in exceptional form once again and it didn’t look like he would be beaten all weekend.

“Tom [Oliphant] really deserved to finish on the podium in race one but just missed out, while Charlie [Eastwood] did a fantastic job to bounce back from the disappointment of race one and get on the podium again in race two.

“I’m delighted for Daniel [McKay] that he broke into the top five for the first time and I’m sure that will be the first of many, while both Euan [McKay] and Jamie [Orton] overcame difficult first races to really show their speed and potential in race two.

“I can’t thank the whole team enough for all their hard work across the weekend, and I know we’re all really excited to head out to Le Mans next month and be a part of that event once again.”

Dan Cammish: “The car was fantastic all weekend and that meant when I got in front in the races, I could control the pace and get the two victories. We’re back in the lead of the championship now and I think we’ll start to push on from here now.”

Charlie Eastwood: “After the disappointment of race one, it was great to get a podium in race two and not lose too many championship points to Dan. Our pace was great all weekend and we’ll be looking to take that into Le Mans.”
