Clash at The Glen Celebrates 17th Year with 270 Porsche Club of America Drivers

More than 270 drivers will compete in the 17th annual Clash at The Glen Porsche Club of America (PCA) event June 2-4 at iconic Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

The event is put on by Zone 1, the largest zone in PCA with more than 24,000 members, and will feature 29 different car classes. Hundreds of PCA Club Racing drivers, plus the PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series drivers, will compete on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn hilltop track located in Watkins Glen, N.Y., at the southern tip of Seneca Lake.

“It’s one of two major club races each year that doesn’t include PCA’s High Performance Driver’s Education (DE) with it,” said Pete Tremper, Class Co-Chair. “There’s 10 sprint races Saturday and four enduro races on Sunday, so it’s a big event.”

Tremper has been putting on the event since it originated in 2001. The retired DuPont chemist served as the PCA National DE Chair and is currently the chief instructor at New Jersey Motorsports Park near his hometown of Clayton, N.J. Tremper also drives in The Clash in the H Class with his Porsche 964.

“We have a volunteer base of about 40 people – which is pretty small, but they’re extremely dedicated,” Tremper said. “That’s the only way I can also drive in this event – I rely on these volunteers to do their job and they most definitely do.”

This year, Tremper has a special treat for drivers and fans. Mo’s Knows Ice Cream will be selling ice cream bars out of an old school bus. Each driver will get a discount coupon for a treat of his or her choice.

Zone 1 is also featuring special prizes for podium winners from each of the four PCA classes. Drivers on podium will receive commemorative bottles of wine and two stemless wine glasses, plus special commemorative jackets with The Clash logo on the front and the legendary Porsche logo on the back. Only 400 jackets or less are made each year, according to Tremper.

A banquet will be held Saturday at the track where Zone 1 will hand out Worker’s Choice Awards. Friends and family of PCA drivers are welcome at the event – they just need to sign in before entering the track.

“We couldn’t do it without our volunteers,” Tremper said. “We’re all excited to once again kick off one of the largest PCA races in the country.”
