Flying Lizard Aims to Carry Lime Rock Momentum into Road America

After a month long break in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS schedule, Flying Lizard Motorsports is seeking to carry the momentum from the previous double header at Lime Rock Park to this weekend’s festivities at Road America. The team celebrated its strongest performance yet this season season, earning two wins and an additional podium with drivers Rodrigo “Digo” Baptista and Nate Stacy.

The break comes at the halfway point in the season, allowing teams to work in their own shops and prepare for the next leg of the season. Road America’s 14-turn, 4.048-mile road course should allow the Lizard’s pair of Porsche Caymen GT4 Clubsport MRs to show strong speed in the straights, while possibly offering up challenges on the elevation changes.

Flying Lizard has previously competed at Road America 11 times in the American Le Mans Series and IMSA SportsCar Series, earning six podiums and an additional six top five finishes. Sportscar veteran Terry Borcheller will also join the squad at Road America to offer coaching for both young drivers, as he did on the test day earlier this month at Lime Rock Park.

Following the success of Lime Rock Park, as well as a steady improvement all season long, Baptista and Stacy now sit third and fourth in the GTS driver championship points, with Flying Lizard Motorsports currently third in the GTS Team Championship standings.

Practice sessions for the Grand Prix of Road America begin on Thursday, and the field will race to the checker flag Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25. For schedule and ticket information, visit world-challenge.com

It has been nice having this break between races, especially after the back to back events at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Lime Rock Park. This has allowed us to do a mid-season refresh with the cars, clean up bodywork and basically get ready for the second half of the season. We are hoping to continue the momentum from our strong run at CTMP and the double podium at Lime Rock. Each car in the series has its strong tracks and weak tracks, Road America has quite a mix of requirements. The Porsche has good top speed so we should do well on the long straights but then there are several uphill climbs that should benefit the big V8 cars so it will be interesting to see how compare. Both Rodrigo and Nate are really working well together as teammates and the team also works extremely well together. I love this track and it always has a great fan turnout so we are looking forward to a great weekend.

Rodrigo “Digo” Baptista | No. 3 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR
I can’t wait to drive in Road America. I watched some videos and did some simulator work to learn the track and lines but there’s nothing like real life. I am looking forward to race in one of the most spectacular circuits in the United States, with the long straights, elevations, and the carousel.  I think we should be fast, starting at the beginning of the weekend. I am very confident in my Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR, especially after my sweeps at Lime Rock Park. Let’s put Porsche and Flying Lizard Motorsports in the top of the podium again!

Nate Stacy | No. 14 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR
I am super excited to get back behind the wheel of my Flying Lizard Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR. I’ve been spending a lot of time at the track, and on the simulator in hopes that it will help me get faster. Terry Borcheller has been a huge help and I’m happy he’ll be joining us at Road America. His coaching will help Rodrigo and I find those extra tenths around Road America.
