It’s been several long weeks since the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge was last in race action at Circuit of the Americas, but TeamTGM has been busy preparing for Round 4 of the championship at Watkins Glen this weekend.
Located in scenic upstate New York, the Glen kicks off an uptick in the race calendar with the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park round taking place the week immediately following Watkins Glen, with Lime Rock and Road America all coming up within the next month.
TeamTGM drivers Ted Giovanis and Guy Cosmo are primed for the Glen event with the team having spent time testing during the break between races.
“Watkins Glen is one of my most favorite tracks, and I’ve had a lot of time there and know the track pretty well,” said Giovanis, who has made eight starts at the 3.4-mile road course. “This is particularly true since I’ve gotten a few ideas from Guy (Cosmo) and Hugh (Plumb). I’m looking forward to our Watkins Glen race at such a historic venue. We’ve tested at the Glen and I think we have a pretty good handle on the car set up.”
Cosmo has a lengthy Watkins Glen racing resume that includes 11 starts in the Sahlen’s 6 Hour in addition to his Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge starts at the track. He took a third place podium finish in his very first 6 Hour in 2003 and matched that result with another podium in the 2011 event.
“I’m excited for Watkins Glen – it’s one of my home tracks, having grown up in New York, so I’m looking forward to racing in my home state with friends and family coming up for the race,” said Cosmo. “I’ve come close a few times but I’ve never won a race at the Glen. So, it is time, and I am ready! We tested there a few weeks ago and in addition to the cars being fantastic, Ted (Giovanis) was particularly strong with his pace. He’s really familiar with the track and it showed. He started off quick and made some great improvements with the input that Hugh Plumb and I have given him. We are all excited for this one, and for the mid-season swing with three races in four weeks. We are ready.”
The Watkins Glen event begins on Thursday with a 1-hour afternoon practice session. Saturday will see a morning and afternoon practice followed by a 15-minute qualifying session. The 2-hour Continental Tire 120 race is set for Saturday at 2:20 PM ET with LIVE video streaming at IMSA.tv.
