Podiums for Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific customers in China GT Shanghai weekend

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific customer Eagleeyed Racing Team scored a podium in the GTC class of the China GT Championship round in Shanghai, while RSR GT Racing and 69 Racing Team shared the one-make honours.

Despite taking a five-place grid drop for a collision in the Saturday race, China GT regular Lawrence Liu and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia podium finisher Cui Yue utilised the speed that put them on the front row of the grid to take third in the GTC class on board the #9 Eagleeyed Racing Team Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

In the one-make category, 69 Racing Team locked out the top three in qualifying. Although its duo of Ningbo class winners Jacky Wu and Porsche China Junior Daniel Lu took the win on the road from pole in race one, it was disqualified for a technical infringement, as were the sister #10 car of former Porsche Carrera Cup Asia racer Ben Rouget and Simon Chan as well as the #666 of Yang Ke.

That gave the #36 RSR GT Racing pair of Jui Yu Chien and Sun Zirui the victory ahead of Wu Pei, who qualified second, in the #8 YC Racing car.

The #69 took the honours on Sunday however, with RSR GT Racing once again edging out YC Racing for second.

Daniel Lu, 69 Racing Team, said: “Overall a very successful round three of China GT, with pole position and the win in both races on the road. The car and team were really good throughout the weekend and I’m looking forward to the next round.”

Lawrence Liu, Eagleeyed Racing Team, said: “It was a dramatic racing weekend. We did an excellent job in qualifying, then in Saturday’s race I couldn’t see properly due to the heavy rain, which resulted in contact with another car and a first lap retirement. This also gave us a five-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race, but we kept strong pace and finally achieved third in the GTC category.”

Alexandre Gibot, Head of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, said: “The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup showed good speed around the Shanghai venue, with Eagleeyed Racing Team scoring a podium in the GTC class. We also saw some competitive racing in the one-make category with 69 Racing, YC Racing and RSR GT Racing all putting on good showings.”
