Matteo Cairoli claimed an excellent P3 LMGTe Am finish at the Lone Star Le Mans, 6 Hours of COTA, the fifth out of eight FIA WEC rounds. After sealing his second pole position of the season, the Italian racer made a richly deserved return to the podium.
Sharing the duties with team-mates Egidio Perfetti and Laurens Hörr in the Team Project 1 #56 Porsche 911 RSR car, Cairoli remained at the wheel for about two hours. Perfetti took the start and maintained the first position before handing over to Cairoli after one hour and half. The Italian retained the lead for all his driving stint but later in the race the trio moved down to third.
“We did the best that we could”, Cairoli said, “I only think a different strategy could help us to finish ever further up in the field. We didn’t have any technical issue or contacts and everything was fine through the whole race”.
After finishing fifth in Shanghai, this is the best result Cairoli claimed so far in the 2019/2020 campaing.
The next FIA WEC round is the 1000 Miles of Sebring scheduled on 18th/19th March, before the last two European events at Spa and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
