Matteo Cairoli set for the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Matteo Cairoli is set for his fourth 24 Hours of Le Mans, as the world’s oldest active sports car race will get underway this weekend. The 88th edition of one of the most challenging races will begin on Saturday, 19th September, at 2.30pm CEST.

The 24-year-old Italian racer will share driving duties with team-mates Egidio Perfetti and 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup champion, Dutchman Larry ten Voorde, completing a LMGTe Am trio for Team Project 1. Having made his debut in the French race in 2017 claiming a best P6, Cairoli set the pole position of category in the last two years.

“I head to Le Mans confident. It is my fourth time driving on the famous Circuit de la Sarthe”, Cairoli explained. ” I’ve been looking forward to this race all year. It is a special place. First of all I aim to take my third consecutive pole position. The last two editions of the race were very unlucky for me. I’ll try to be focused. We have a great car and good crew. We’ve just got to keep pushing.”

Having claimed his first GT World Challenge Europe victory two weeks ago at the Nürburgring, in a Dinamic Motorsport’s Porsche, Cairoli has found an extra motivation to perform well in the big one. The 24 Hour of Le Mans represents round 7 of 8 of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
