Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Announces 2017 Schedule

Building on a decade of growth, Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA is thrilled to announce its 2017 event schedule, which features some of the most compelling tracks in North America.

The all-Porsche race series is operated by Competent Motorsport, and will look forward to its 11th year of operation in 2017.

Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA entries grew to record numbers in 2016 with the addition of the Silver class, which utilizes the Porsche Cayman ClubSport GT4. Both the Diamond and Platinum classes, which utilize 911 GT3 Cup machines, also posted large and highly competitive fields the 16-race championship in 2016.

Competent Motorsport anticipates another big year in 2017 with visits to some of the most iconic venues in the country.

The series will once again feature eight weekends of competition, with every event including double-headers for a total of 16 races. The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA series will visit several of the same tracks as it did in 2016 including Sonoma Raceway, Utah Motorsports Campus, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and Circuit of the Americas. New for 2017 are Thunderhill Raceway Park and Road America.

Thunderhill will host the season-opening event on April 14-16. The series most recently competed at the facility in 2011. The Road America event will mark the penultimate round of the 2017 championship on September 22-24. The series last ran at the historic road course located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin in 2014.

The 2017 season will see two visits to Utah Motorsports Campus outside of Salt Lake City, Utah as well as two trips to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the 2017 season-finale held at the Monterey, California road course on October 13-15 in conjunction with the Pirelli World Challenge finale.

“We were thrilled with our 2016 season, and this is a great way to launch 2017 with this announcement,” said Competent Motorsport President Greg Franz. “Our teams and drivers gave us a lot of good feedback about where they wanted to race and the kind of events that we wanted to be a part of, so we are happy to be able to deliver on what they were looking for. It is exciting for us to be returning to Thunderhill and Road America, and for us to team with the Pirelli World Challenge for three event weekends next year is something that we are very happy about. This is the earliest that we’ve been in a position to confirm our next season schedule and now we are focused on having another great season in 2017.”
