Ferriol piloted the No. 5 GridRival Porsche GT3 powered by team Moorespeed through two practice sessions and qualifying where he found the rhythm he needed that led to his first career victory in Race 1 on Saturday amongst more than 30 Porsches. The race was an exciting one, described by Ferriol as “definitely a race for survival.”
Race 2 proved even more dramatic, with three long cautions for different incidents on track. Ferriol fought hard amidst the traffic in the short green windows of the 45-minute event. The competition was close enough for Ferriol to finish just 1.414 seconds behind Sebastian Carazo for a runner-up finish. Ferriol’s impressive showing at Road America moved him to the second-place spot in the season-long point championship, trailing Sebastian Carazo 339 – 298.
Next up for Ferriol and Hardpoint Motorsports is a doubleheader at VIRginia International Speedway on August 23-25.
Rob Ferriol – Driver of the No. 5 GridRival Porsche GT3
“This was the weekend we needed. Finally, after something like 16 trips to the podium, I finally found the top step. The car was perfect all weekend – Moorespeed did a phenomenal job giving me a very competitive car. All I had to do was turn the wheel and mash the pedal. The weekend wasn’t without its challenges though. Both races were marred with incidents and lengthy full-course cautions, which meant time was critical in gaining positions. It was a challenge just to keep the car clean with all that was playing out around us, so to bring home a first place in Race 1 and second place in Race 2 is the icing on the cake. Now on to VIR!”
